"This case study describes that the Social Security Administration (SSA) performs essentially all IT program work in-house with
a predominately Federal workforce utilizing SSA-owned and operated infrastructure and
systems. It is from within the SSA Federal employee workforce of about 3,500 that SSA
cultivates and develops IT program and project managers."
This case study is about Vivek Kundra (Kundra) who was appointed as the first ever Federal CIO of the US in March 2009. Before this assignment, Kundra had had a less than two-year reign as the CTO at District of Columbia (DC)
The purpose of this study was to identify and describe what jurisdictions at the local, state, and federal levels are doing to build their leadership pipeline to ensure an adequate supply of experienced talent for the future.
